Sustainability Management Program

Conservation of Javan Hawk-eagle (Nisaetus Bartelsi)

PT Smelting carried out a conservation program for Javan Hawk-eagle (Nisaetus Bartelsi) at Taman Safari I, Cisarua, Bogor. This program began on April 28, 2018. This program was carried out in collaboration with Taman Safari I Cisarua, Bogor. The selection of Javan Hawk-eagle species is based on the consideration that the Javan Hawk-eagle population is very alarming. The population of Javan Hawk-eagle in the wild is estimated to be only 600. Based on the latest threat criteria from the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), Javan Hawk-eagle is included in the Endangered or “Critical” category (Collar et al., 1994, Shannaz et al., 1995).

Komodo Dragon Release​

The release of 6 Komodo dragons as an implementation of the pentahelix conservation program for Indonesia’s proud animals was carried out in the grounds of the Wae Wuul Nature Reserve, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), as the highlight of National Nature Conservation Day (HKAN) 2023.

Insemination of Javanese Bulls and Balinese Cows​

PT Smelting and Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) are intensifying conservation of endangered animals at Prigen Safari Park, Pasuruan, East Java. This effort was carried out by cross-breeding Javanese bulls with Balinese cattle which have succeeded in giving birth to new breeds. Jansen Manansang, Director of the Indonesian Safari Park (TSI) Group, said that conservation is an important step to preserve animal life.

Mangrove Conservation​

Since 2014, PT Smelting conducted a Mangrove Tree planting program in Pangkah Kulon Village, Ujung Pangkah District. Mangrove trees planted by PT Smelting as many as 40,300 Mangrove trees from Rhizopora Mucronata, Rhizopora Apiculata, Rhizopora Bruguera. This program is implemented until 2018 in accordance with the strategic plan for biodiversity protection of PT Smelting, and based on official recommendations from the Environmental Agency of the Gresik Regency Government.
